I had never seen Tom McRae live before and
so I decided to drive to Rotterdam, which is 4 hours away from where
I live in Germany. We were three people and we already drove to
Rotterdam on Saturday, so that we wouldn't have to drive all the way
two times on the same day. On Sunday we went to the venue very early,
because we had nothing else to do except drinking Cappuccino ;). As
soon as I saw, that the tour bus was already parked there, I tried
to get my CD signed by Tom. I was waiting at the gate, but I didn't
see him. Later, it was about 4 pm, Tom and Kathryn Williams came
around the corner and I was quite "shocked" to meet him. I just
asked him to sign my CD and take a photo with me. He was a bit
shocked too, that somebody knew him ;) He was very kind and later,
at the gig he told the whole audience, that I was the only one who
was waiting for him and so he played the song "Streetlight" for me
;). This was the best day of my life!

About the picture...
It was the first time I was going
to a Tom Gig, and I was really excited. We travelled from Bergen to
Oslo with the night train. Beiing in Oslo 12 hours before the gig, no
money and nothing to do. So we walked around Oslo for a few hours
when one of my friends got a message that he was to play a small gig
in one of the local cd stores. And we went there two hours before,
just so we could stand right in front of him. And we did. He played
three songs, two from the new album and bloodless. And there were just
about 50 people in the store listening to him. After the amazing
short concert (where he pointed out that it was stupid of him,
playing for only 50 persons, trying to sell more cd's) he signed the
newly bought cd (with the money that should have gone to food!!) and let
us take pictures of him, and even touch him!! Later that night we
went to his big gig.
And it was amazing...

About the picture...
It was taken in February 2003 when Tom played at the
Manchester Academy. I interviewed him for the French
magazine Rock&Folk. Since he'd been very sweet and
friendly, I asked him if he agreed to pose with my doll
(I'm a doll collector besides being a rock journalist and I
usually carry a doll around with me at *almost* all times).
He thought it was fun and asked if my doll had a name. When
I told him she was named Una, he said it was the name of his
favorite aunt and he let me take a couple of photos of him
with the doll. He joked that she was winking at him and
asked her to visit him backstage after the gig !

About the picture...
Elisa, Tom and me at an
invite-only solo performance in the fnac forum, Brussels. After the
gig everyone was given the opportunity to have their album signed. I
just bought All maps welcome minutes before the show started in the
shop. I had mine signed, and while Elisa had the debut album signed
I took a picture. We had a white marker and he tested the pen on the
black table to see if it would write on the booklet yes or no.
A fnac employee who saw all this said to Tom: "I think they want a
picture with you together..." And Tom replied "Sure, no
problem". So he stood up and put his arms around both of us. And as
the Fnac employee pushed the button, Tom pulled us close. We were SO
surprised we started laughing like silly teenagers, resulting in
this picture where the only one staring at the lens is Tom himself.
Ah, the memories ;-)
Thanks to the fnac employee whose name I've forgotten...
